So after 5 months and 3 Billion kilometers of travel it has all come to an end in a little touristy Brazilian beach town called Paraty.
Paraty is nice. We had the best bargaining session of our lives at the bus station, where two hostel people gave us discounts and free things every time we looked at them. In the end we chose a beachfront hostel with our own private apartment, kitchen, free internet, hammocks and breakfast. Not too shabby. The only catch was that we had to walk half an hour out of town with our huge backpacks on in the burning sun. But we're professionals. It was worth it.
We headed straight for the beach which wasn't anything special, and had lots of mud underwater. That made SMNadja run away to blow up imaginary kayaks and go dinner shopping. So while they were doing that me and Monica played with some kids and then laid in the hostel's hammock while waiting for dinner. Mmmm... dinner. Louis - an American who we had met at the bus station- proceeded in preparing us a delicious meal of feijuada (Brazilian bean dish), which my spell check keeps on wanting to change to marijuana, and fried bananas.
I love bananas. Fried, raw, sweet or salty, liquid or solid hot or cold...Mmmm.. they're always good. So the next day we took the bus to Trindadia, supposedly the best beach in the area. Well it didn't beat Lopes Mendes, but it was still very nice. After relaxing on the sand for a bit we took a jungle walk to another beach and a natural pool created by big rocks fencing off parts of the sea.
That night was my last of the trip and we were planning to go to a jazz/reggae/blues concert which turned out not to exist. No matter, we went out for a drink and walked around the streets till late. We got caught by a gay couple that wasn't gay and they made us talk to them for 30 years before we could finally and tiredly fall into our beds.
The next morning I took the bus to Sao Paulo, where I flew to Toronto and then Raleigh- Where I will be spending the next month of my life.
